Photograph, since its birth, had ever been regarded as the servant of painting, because photographic theories, except some technical ones, were adopted or borrowed from painting theories. When we look over the photographic theories, we find few of them are talking about photographic nature, while most of them are talking about technique in favor of technique, which are seemingly technical books or instruction books. Not until in the middle of the last century did the research on photographic linguistics begin to arise. A camera is a tool of expression, just like what Bresson had said " A camera is a sketching book to me". It is a pen to painter, a knife to sculptor. This paper looks into the very essence of photograph. It reveals, based on the theory of phenomenology, the characteristics of photographic linguistics. In the meantime, it illustrates how to make use of the linguistic nature to express the living world in a more efficient way.
