| The text is concerned with the communication between the writer and the reader.It is realized by the author's writing process as well as the reader's comprehending process,and presents the peculiar stylistic features of its own.The formation of humorous effect of a text is embodied in the communicative stimulating effect in text interpretation,and thus,is related to the textual linguistic features and the reader's cognitive mechanism and cognitive disposal.By the conjoining of analysis on linguistic features and cognitive mechanism,this thesis applies the General Theory of Verbal Humor(GTVH) to the analysis of textual evidence,aiming at elucidating the formation of humorous effect,and ultimately revealing the formation of style of humorous texts.In accordance with the knowledge resources for humor generation,under the framework of general stylistics,functional stylistics and cognitive stylistics,and from the perspective of linguistic analysis and extra-linguistic analysis,this thesis performs a systematic stylistic analysis of a rich variety of humorous texts at the levels of phonology,lexicon,syntax and semantics and on factors of field,tenor and mode.It is just those stylistic features that facilitate the communicative stimulating effect.Accordingly,GTVH is adopted for the illustration of cognitive structure and mechanism lying behind various linguistic evidences,the root of humorous effect,and consequently,how the style of humorous texts is formed.As what we find out in this study,humorous texts are endowed with the stylistic features of ambiguity,which is predetermined by the cognitive mechanisms in humor generating.The outcome of this research supplies a comparatively systematic and detailed description of the style of humorous texts and its formation process,and sheds light on both the understanding and creation of humorous texts in an effective way. |
