| The National Young Singers'TV Contest, founded in 1984, has been held thirteen times, once every two years. This contest has significant influence in China, as it is taken as an important contest in the field of music and a valuable means for the promotion of new singers and new musical works. Such influence has been extended in recent years in that many overseas Chinese also come back to China to compete in this contest.There had been many reforms since the foundation of the National Young Singers'TV Contest, which can be chronologically divided into three stages: the stage of primitive, the stage of development, and the stage of perfection. During the 24 years the contest system has achieved gradual improvements, evolving from the initial contest without classification of singing into the 13th contest with different groups of bel canto, ethnic singing, pop singing and the original ecological singing, and in addition the contest of choir. The reform and development of National Young Singers'TV Contest has promoted the vigorous development of vocal music in China, as well as the wide spread of bel canto via the advantage of TV as the medium.The National Young Singers'TV Contest promotes the development of bel canto in China in the following aspects: providing a showing platform for young singers; aiding the improvement of overall level of bel canto in China; advancing the spread of bel canto works. However, some problems are exposed through the contest, such as over westernization of performing works and decrease of Chinese works by-session, which should be resolved imperatively.This thesis explores the development of bel canto in China through the analysis of the status of bel canto in the National Young Singers'TV Contest. In specific, analyze the role of the contest in promotion of bel canto in Chian and discuss the development of bel canto in China, the problems during the development and the possible solutions, which aim at further promoting the development of bel canto in China. |
