| Chen Yingxiong is a Vietnamese French film director, whose films have a distinctive native Vietnamese affection and typical eastern cultural characteristics. He merges his retrospection on Vietnamese national culture by eastern philosophical idea into modern film language, and forms his typical eastern film director style, making great contributions to the re-prosperity of Vietnamese films in international film circle, enriching the expressive techniques of oriental films and further widening the profoundness of realistic concerns. His works aim to promote national culture ,making national culture compete with the eastern one. Chen Yingxiong is a representative of Vietnamese films, but also a flag of the third world films.This thesis interprets the theme of his works from the perspective of text creates subject by utilizing the text interpretation theory, and analyzes the artistic value of his film mirror language, exploring the enlightenment that his works have on the national culture in the process of globalization.The thesis contains four parts:The first part cards on the research results of Chen Yingxiong's films, and presents its significance and value in multi-cultural globalization.The second part makes a careful carding on Vietnamese films of various themes from the perspective of text creates subject, from the other mirror language and the arduous struggles of Vietnamese native figures'safeguarding national culture to the mirror images of his century anxiety and pursuit. He makes unremitting efforts in complex cultural context to breakthrough the other text and realizes the span from Vietnamese the other film to tenor image. In the process of economic and cultural globalization, as a cross-cultural representative, he merges the Vietnamese traditional culture into his films through modern techniques and manifests Vietnamese traditional cultural essences and attitudes to surmount misery and fate, expressing a qualitative sense and thinking strength of life. This attitude toward the national existing philosophy is a manifestation of someone who stays in a remote place to seek national cultural basis and homologous identity, which makes his works entail a native poetic style and human nature brilliance.The third part analyzes the distinctive artistic features of Chen Yingxiong's films in terms of mirror language. By fully utilizing a great amount of narrative, film and music elements, such as visual camera languages, simplified plot, music and hues, etc., as well as some poetic and modern languages, his works creates a picturesque and unique artistic conception, manifesting an eastern ultimate human nature care of Confucianism Buddhism and Taoism, displaying the elusive artistic conception and wisdom of modern eastern Confucian culture.The fourth part mainly tells us that his works are the products of globalization as well as the rising of oriental images. Together with the new-emerged films of other Asian countries, his works demonstrate an incontestable fact that eastern and western films have coexisted into a new pattern of multi-polarization, breaking Hollywood's hegemony. As a cross-cultural film director, from whose works we can see the trend of global multi-cultural interaction and integration, he fulfills the modern presentation of Vietnamese traditional cultural essences in the process of globalization and post-colonialism, playing a bigger role in the grandness of oriental images.This thesis places his works in the background of global cultural context. It mainly explores value of this Vietnamese director's eastern modern films, by investigating the gain and loss of his films ,we will think and discuss what attidute the national films should have under the background of globalization. |
