On Zhang Zhan And The Liezi Note

"The Liezi Note" is the best and the biggest affects note book in Wei Jin time compound with Wang Bi's "The Laozi Note" and Guo Xiang's "Zhuang-zi Note". Zhang Zhan has established his status in the Wei Jin thinking history by "the Liezi Note". Although academic dispute to "Liezi"'s truth, Zhang Zhan has developed the Wei Jin metaphysics by his annotation for "Liezi", and has developed the multi-faceted Taoism classics explanation study in this process. Therefore, regardless of "Liezi"'s truth or not, we should give great regarding on Zhang Zhan and "the Liezi Note". This article from the explanation study view, review the explanation content and the methodology in Zhang Zhan's "the Liezi Note", and try to launch the new exploration in"founding the Chinese classical explanation study".This article is divided into four parts.The first part mainly researches the family background of Zhang Zhan and his biography. First, from ancient book, inspected Zhang zhan comes from an eunuch family; Next, discuss the life age of Zhang zhan which upon the predecessor studies, and point out that Zhang Zhan's life age should between Eastern Jin Dynasty Emperor Cheng and Emperor An (326--418), the lower limit of his life is the year 362, and he was born approximately in the year 332.The second part mainly elaborated the reason that Zhang Zhan made the note for "Liezi". The metaphysics prevailing custom during Wei Jin time is the social cause for Zhang zhan to creates "the Liezi Note"; the close relationship of Zhang's family, Fu'family and the Shanyang Wang's family gave Zhang zhan convenience to make the note for "Liezi"; Reappear the text of "Liezi", straighten out the meaning of "Liezi", construct his own metaphysics system became the intrinsic power of Zhang zhan to creates "the Liezi Note".The third part, is mainly elaborates the explanation content, the explanation method as well as the explanation characteristic of "the Liezi Note" from the explanation study sight. This part is also the key point of this article. It is divides into three aspects. The first aspect, Zhang Zhan's explanation style can be divided into six levels: Summarizes the meaning, explained the character word and the name decrees, open out the sentence meaning, explain the philosophy righteousness principle, uncovers the article refer to, the mark pronunciation, collates the writing and distinguish false which undecided. These six levels had reflected the explanation content and the thinking mode of Zhang Zhan's "Liezi Note". Zhang Zhan also completed himselves metaphysics system based on this constructs. In the second aspect, the author combine with the example summarized Zhang Zhan's explanation method: Explains the character example, prompts the etymology, descript the contextual meaning, retail the words and expressions, debate the analyzing logos, clear the meaning of the allegories and negative interpretive method. The first four ways can be regarded as the language explanation methods, the latter three ways can be regarded as the philosophy explanation methods. The third aspect has promulgated the explanation characteristic of "the Liezi Note".The fourth part mainly summarized literature value of "the Liezi Note". This part has highlighted "the Liezi Note" with compiling, emending and thought three aspects'value. Analyzed the precious value for the later generation scholars Xiang Xiu to study the "Zhuang-zi Note" and "Liezi"'s collating. The thesis also embarked from the dualism ideology discussed the thought value of Zhang Zhan's worldview and the outlook on life.
