Using a method of case study, selected eight representative artists of contemporary Chinese ink and wash painting and their works, studied the contemporary Chinese ink and wash painting methodology and painting conception, to judge and understand the inherent law of the development of Chinese ink and wash painting, and thereby to make definite the point of its development in future.Through assaying the works of eight representative artists of Chinese ink and wash painting, we found that the traditional painting and the western art both have an effect on contemporary Chinese ink and wash painting. Chinese ink and wash painting has a definite pertinence. It starts to think about the relationship of the art, the contemporary culture, the fact and the spirit. In the light of contemporary art, painting conception of Chinese ink and wash painting need a revolution immediately. Innovate the painting conception and methodology is the only way to let the artistic form such as Chinese ink and wash painting developing with more containing, thereby to represent the spiritual height of our age.
