The 20th century initial period,One kind of new dramatic art form——"the modern drama",entered to China which is named "country of the Xiqu" that has the glorious cultural tradition and the deep historical accumulation,and started the modern drama's difficult distance in ancient China.The modern drama,as the foreign drama's type,how causes its Chinese and how enables it to have the Chinese national characteristic,which is a question that Chinese modern dramatists' ponders throughout.But in modern drama's history,the dramatists of XinYue school carried on the integrated ponder on the modern drama's national characteristic at first.They launched "the National Drama Movement" in 1926,who wanted to establish the drama that developed the Chinese play which by the Chinese with the Chinese material and looked to the Chinese",the XinYue school realizes and appraises the Chinese traditional Xiqu,who has lifted up the national characteristic flag on own initiative.They proposed that "the Chinese opera theory",and carried on a series of dramatic art practice under this theory's instruction:Established the education in early time,created the outstanding modern drama's works,translated the Western drama's play script and the theory monograph, and organized "the small theater" as their drama's ideal dream.Their endeavors have manifested in the exploration and the innovation about the national characteristic of the early modern drama.At that time,people in the dramatic world who all defied traditional Xiqu and imitated the Western drama,but the XinYue school had the collective attention and expectation on the dramatic national characteristic,in fact,their theory had positive sense to the modern drama's deveopled path.But,on the one hand,because of the XinYue school's dramatic theroy was masked by its poetry prominent achievement,on the other hand,who advocated the national drama's theory that "received the old-style drama's advantages and abandoned the old-style drama's disadvantages." The theory was incompatible with mainstream words.Therefore,the XinYue school's theory wasn't paid attention to by the researchers,the discussion of the XinYue school's drama was laid in the studies' in the boundary zone.Based on this,this article planned that take the national characteristic as the breakthrough point,and appraised the historical Status and value about the theory of the XinYue school's drama.At the same time,throughout its system analysis and summary to this theory,which took the whole carefully examine to the national characteristic construction of modern drama.This article is divided three chapters.The first chapter proposed that "the Chinese opera"——again tracking down which loses to the drama's national characteristic.This chapter unifies the big background of the national Drama Movement,definited the concept of the national Drama which tracked down the modern drama's national characteristic which lost to at that time.The first section,which mainly assumes the question about the Newly Youth's westernization,and analyzes the reason that the new drama moved toward to trough.And unifies the question drama's shortcoming which simply transplanted and imitated the Western drama's pattern,At the same time,this section analyzes the theory of "The National Drama" which was a reasonable correction to the 54 times' ideas of the new drama. The second section,the establishment about "The National Drama" owns the national characteristic.The section Unifies the drama movement in Ireland Renaissance movement which was esteemed by XinYue school's dramatists and elaborates that the important meaning and value about the drama's national characteristic,sees The National Drama's theory statement is the modern drama summon own national characteristic.The second chapter,build new house on old foundation——to explores the drama's national characteristic.This chapter ponders and summarizes again to the misunderstanding about the XinYue school's appraisal on Xiqu,and compares the XinYue school's drama viewpoint with Zhang Houzai's conservative position,so the chapter points out The National Drama,which affirmes Xiqu's unique artistic style and the outstanding drama's,is one kind of reasonable resources, but non-enclosed clinging to the remains.Then,this chapter further analyzes the cultural reason about why the XinYue school appreciates the traditional Xiqu,and points to the drama's view of XinYue school is took "China and the West drama fusion" as the final goal. Next,this chapter analyzes the XinYue school's viewpoint,which received the old-style Xiqu's advantages and abandoned the old-style Xiqu's disadvantages,and elaborates XinYue school's theory materially is to neutral the radical viewpoint that wanted to abolish Xiqu with the conservative view that guaranteed Xiqu.Furthermore,the drama is audience's art.The angle from audience 's acceptance to inspected the dramatists of the XinYue school who appreciated the custom and the esthetic choice attention regarding the populace.The third chapter,the national drama's national characteristic under worldwide and contemporary vision.This chapter respectively from the contemporary and the worldwide basis discusses the national characteristic which the XinYue school manifests actually the national characteristic which one kind open and keeps pace with the times.The first section discusses the Chinese drama from the world return.This section observes the theory of XinYue school by the worldwide basis angle of view,realizes that these theories are extraction for the traditional drama's essence under the world's great sight.The second section,the Xiqu was unceasingly criticized for people then,because its content's ignorant national and form's ossification.At the same time,the section compare with XinYue school's and HongShen's national characteristic of drama,summarizes both regarding the modern drama's national characteristic exploration are the same choices which actually will reach the same goal or conclusion from different approaches.
