On Zheng Sixiao's "Xinshi"

Zheng Sixiao(1241-1318),nicknamed Yiweng,also called Suonan,was borned in Lianjiang County of Fujian Province in the Southern Song Dynasty.He was a patriotic writer as well as a good painter who advocated loylty and filial piety in his works,and whose masterpiece was his poetry collection "Xinshi".While he was productive all his life,he was unique in his literary theory.As for the study on "Xinshi",there exists limitation.People in the past usually argued about its authenticity,and focused their attention on its patriotic idea rather than pay adequate attention to its text,let alone analyze its theme and artistic style.My paper will lay emphasis on the study of the text of"Xinshi",explore its idea and artistic style, demonstrate its own value and polish the glory the writer deserves.Meanwhile my paper will also touch upon the writer's family background,thoughts and history background."Xinshi" has substantial content in poetry,in which the writer revealed its love and loylty to the Southern Song Dynasty,castigated the astrocities the army of the Yuan Dynasty had committed,sympathized with the common people in affliction,denounced those evil people in power,and eulogized those martyrs.Also,he expressed his aspiration for supernatural beings in it.It actually records what happened at that time and manifests a variety of styles.Also,"Xinshi" has plentiful theme in prose,which reflects patriotism and worship and eulogy towards heros.And his essays are emotional,terse in language,various in style.In a word,patriotism in "Xinshi" still has a great social impact on later generations after 7 hundreds.
