Learning disability has become a major education problem which has been the concern of all parties concerned. In China, a considerable number of college students have some difficulties in learning English. As the English proficiency of college students is directly related to their academic and personal future, or even the development of the country, it is quite necessary to conduct an in-depth study on the subject. On the basis of theoretical research, the main purpose of this study is to find out the major problems and causes of Chinese college English learners with learning disabilities and the basic countermeasures by adopting quantitative and qualitative approaches.The thesis is divided into four chapters. Chapter one consists of four sections, in which some terms, the significance, research methods and the structure of the thesis are particularly introduced. Chapter two presents the history and status concerning learning disabilities. Chapter three focuses on college students with English learning disabilities at Yulin College in Shaanxi Province. By analyzing the results of the questionnaire, English tests and individual interviews, the study first explores the major problems and causes of Chinese college English learners with learning disabilities and then proposes some countermeasures. Chapter four briefly summarizes the major findings of the study. The main findings of the study are as follows: (1) College English learners are often influenced by a variety of factors. (2) Each of the factors plays a different role in English learning. (3) There are significant differences between students with English learning disabilities and outstanding students in some aspects, which reveal the major problems and causes of Chinese college English learners with learning disabilities. (4) English learning strategies supplemented by other means can help college students with English learning disabilities improve their English level. (5) Cultivating learner autonomy of college students with disabilities is a fundamental way of solving their problems in English learning. (6) Teachers play a key role in solving the problems of college students with learning disabilities in English learning. Finally, the thesis points out that the results obtained in the present study leave much to be improved and it is hoped that further research will lead to more overall and accurate results.
