Study Of Northern Wei Dynasty Female Garment

As the necessary of human living, the garment was limited into the manners field by gerentocratic in ancient, and represented the social status and identity of different public classic in exterior features. The Northern Wei Dynasty was the first minority who governed the northern of China; the garment came through a multi-nationality syncretic evolving process and performed a connecting link between the preceding and the following of Chinese ancient garment.Large numbers of research results of Chinese ancient garment were obtained after complex studying and many monographs were published; moreover, the research topic and scope were gradually expanded from 1980s. In academia, the fragment-generation research of ancient garment was attracted more attention in the middle of 1990s, this indicated that the garment research transferred from plain lengthways to deep landscape orientation. Some special topics on female garments were gradually published one after the other; also, the female garment of Northern Wei Dynasty was discussed in certain degree. In this work, the discovered Northern Wei grave data and related information were collected and systemic analyzed on the base of reported documents. The female garment was studied in four points using the art-archaeology method. (1) The scatter data was piled up and the subarea method was applied to compare the zone character of Northern Wei Dynasty female garment. (2) The garment data were arranged and the change in this period was compared. (3) The basic system and form was recovered to show the popular fashion in this period. (4) The development process of northern female garment was deduced from the social structure, historical affair and economical condition and culture belief. The four points were independences in style, but it were connected and confirmed in content and the whole conclusion was derived from the four points.There are six sections in this work. The first section was introduction; the characters of Chinese ancient garment, the social background of Northern Wei Dynasty and the aim of this work were briefly illustrated. The related grave information and published documents were listed; the review and content research of this work were summarized in the second section. The area style and features of garment documents were concluded and discussed after analyzing the subarea and periodization of related data in the third section. The character identity and social grade was classified according to the amenity characteristic (difference between senior and inferior, division gradation). The female garment development route was revealed by the comparison of styles. The classify research of female garment was shown in the fourth section. The basic system and form of female garments were recovered and explained in the fifth section. The origination of Northern Wei Dynasty female garment was probed in the sixth section. It suggested that the Hu garment was the root of Xianbei nationality garment, which gradually connected the Han garment style with the southern immigration of Northern Wei regime. At same time, the Han garment also assimilated the convenient advantage of Hu garment and introduced it into the Han nationality, so, novel garment styles were appeared with the connection, promotion and amalgamation of nationality garment. The Han style garment that governed the state since Qin dynasty was broken; more simple and pragmatic Northern Wei female style was formed. It was the turning point of Chinese ancient female style.The origination of Northern Wei Dynasty female garment was probed in the sixth section. It suggested that the Hu garment was the root of Xianbei nationality garment, which gradually connected the Han garment style with the southern immigration of Northern Wei regime. At same time, the Han garment also assimilated the convenient advantage of Hu garment and introduced it into the Han nationality, so, a novel garment style was appeared with the connection, promotion and amalgamation of nationality garment. Furthermore, it also established the base of Sui-Tang dynasties female garments.In this work, based on the systemic analysis of Northern Wei Dynasty female garments, not only the detail research data were established but also this period female garment style was full and accurate displayed using art-archaeology method. It was in favor of understanding the social background, living fashion and culture belief information derived from garments. Just as what Guo Moruo said: the development track of nationality culture could be obtained by ancient garment research.
