Study On Miniature Grottoes And Statues Of Buddhism Of The Sui And Tang Dynasties In Changzhi Region

On the basis of field survey, this thesis aims at making a deep analysis on miniature grottoes and statues of Buddhism of The Sui and Tang Dynasties in Changzhi region in Shanxi province. Distinctions and connections between miniature grottoes and statues of Buddhism of The Sui and Tang Dynasties in this region and those in Large and medium-sized grottoes, distinctions and connections on artistic style between this area and Surrounding areas, and inheriting and developing ties from grottoes in the Northern Dynasty are discussed in this thesis.Through analysis above, the author comes to a conclusion: there are some faith differences between miniature grottoes and statues of Buddhism of The Sui and Tang Dynasties in Changzhi region and large-sized grottoes, for example the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang; There are significant artistic style differences between miniature grottoes and statues in this area and those belonging to the same type and same era in surrounding areas, for example Hebei, Henan and Shaanxi provinces; And miniature grottoes and statues of Buddhism of The Sui and Tang Dynasties in Changzhi region developed rather than blindly succeed those in the Northern Dynasty in artistic style.Through the field survey and analysis to miniature grottoes and statues of Buddhism of The Sui and Tang Dynasties in Changzhi region, we have a relatively more comprehensive understanding to the existing miniature grottoes and statues in this region. Moreover, we may have a more compound understanding to the developing course, regional characteristics and belief tendency of miniature grottoes and statues of Buddhism of The Sui and Tang Dynasties in this region.
