| Action research encourages teachers to investigate the problems they come across in their class,some of which they may not be aware of before,and engages teachers in a process of development and make a reform when necessary.This thesis aims at studying the impact of strategies-based instruction on the teaching and learning of reading in post-reading phase through the action research on the two classes of students who major in international trade in Open College,Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.Based on the process of action research,this experiment is fulfilled with the following steps:(1).Problem identification;(2). Hypothesis;(3).Preliminary Investigation;(4).Reconfirmation of the problem;(5). Decision on methods;(6).Implementation of the AR plan;(7).Reflection of the plan. The data are collected from the two questionnaires—preliminary and post questionnaires,three interviews—preliminary,mid and post interviews and three teacher logs—preliminary,mid and post teachers logs,which are the quantitative and qualitative methods commonly used in action research.SBI is a bridge to fill the gap between teaching strategies and learning strategies which is a learner-centered approach to teaching that extends classroom strategy training to include both implicit and explicit integration of strategies into the course content.With the help of SBI,the habit of using learning strategies will be formed gradually as the teacher withdraws the instruction.This thesis provides the practical in-class samples on post-reading strategies instruction as the reference for teachers to learn how to use the three teaching strategies:questioning,discussion and writing to lead,guide and support students to learn to use the three post-reading learning strategies:summarizing, drawing a conclusion and WYHL Strategy Chart.At the end of the action research,it is found that the post-reading strategy-based instructions can help students to learn to use the learning strategies to reflect what they have learned from the text and apply the knowledge acquired to actual practice in real life.Ten finding are discussed about the action research of SBI on post-reading strategies.In addition,the limitations are presented from three perspectives:the teacher's,the students' and the textbook's.The teacher made a reflection on her experiment at the end of the action research to find out the pros and cons so as to make an adjustment.Those methods good for teaching and learning should be kept and those bad should be eliminated.New methods will be implemented and prove their effectiveness in future study.Then the action research should be continued from which both teachers and students benefit. |
