Semantic And Pragmatic Study On The MvP In The Structure Of "MvP+VP+NP"

Quantifier whose study is always the issue that people comparatively concern, as a unique system in the Chinese system, plays an important role with its unique characteristics. The sub-areas of quantifier system includes of nominal quantifier and action quantifier. Nominal quantifier with its large number and richness gains the popular attention, while action quantifier, whose study is still not deep enough and understanding is only a direct sense of the language and customs to this day, needs to be digging and exploring in depth. As we know, only when the action quantifier that is can not be used alone constitutes momentum phrase with the numeral can it serve as a syntactic element. Momentum phrase denotes the amount of action, such semantic characteristics making it necessarily to appear with the verb that denotes the action. In modern Chinese, most of the momentum phrases measuring the amount of action in the syntactic structure are located after the verb, that is, the words order of "verb + momentum phrase", and that means the typical location denoting the amount of action is the complement. However, in the realistic corpus, there are still vast grammatical structures, "momentum phrase + verb", called the preposing of the momentum phrase in the field of grammar. The study done by predecessors on the issue, the preposing of the momentum phrase, focuses on the pragmatic level, making a general summary in the semantics, sentence patterns and category, or analyzing the relationship between the momentum phrase and the co-occurrence verb from the difference of position of the complement and adverbial modifier where momentum phrase is located, or exploring the meaning of form and grammar from the interior syntactic structure. The preposing of the momentum phrase is a complex grammatical phenomenon one of which is selected in this paper, the specific structure "MvP + VP + NP". Delving into Semantic and Pragmatic MvP features in the structure intends to use the specific structure to analyze the prepositive MvP so that people can have a profound theoretical understanding of the phenomenon, the preposing of the momentum phrase , and which will provides reference and assistance for people who study this issue in the future. In the grammar study, the three-plane theory, based on the syntactic form of analysis and exploring the semantic distinction and pragmatic characteristics, is a way that the language researchers observe the language phenomenon for in-depth study and a general methodology principle in the grammar study. Semantic and pragmatic study inseparable from the analysis of syntactic form, this paper selects the microscopic structure of momentum phrase, "MvP + VP + NP", focuses on the MvP in this structure and desires to explore the semantic and pragmatic characteristics of it. On the exploring of this issue, guided by the theory of three planes, we firstly analyze the form characteristics of the MvP based on the corpus, divide the structure into two forms, Formâ… and Formâ…¡, according to the distribution characteristics of the MvP, and meanwhile analyze the MvP and VP + NP restrictions of the choice in the structure. Then we delve into semantic feature of the MvP on the basis of syntactic forms analysis, mainly focusing on the quantitative sense embodiment of the MvP and the issue of Subjective Quantity of the MvP in this structure in the two forms. In the study of the issue of quantitative sense, we analyze, the change of the syntactic location of the MvP in the Formâ… is a clear manifestation of quantitative sense, while the MvP in Formâ…¡has different characteristics, including three types in the positive Sentence Pattern: Formâ…¡1a, the syntactic location of the adverbial modifier easily becoming illusory and the borrowed action quantifier which is illusory, two-way trend undoubtedly enhances the illusory degree of the MvP, which leads to weaken the quantitative sense of momentum phrase and focus more attention on a state of short time and shortcut; Formâ…¡1b, weakening the quantitative sense through unsure virtual form means to emphasize the time is short; Formâ…¡1c, the MvP is the superimposed form of action quantifier, denoting the means of every one, which veritably replicates the way and state of action and just agree with the grammatical meaning of the adverbial modifier location, and the embodiment of the quantitative sense is not manifest; Formâ…¡2 , the MvP in the negative Sentence Pattern appears in the finite format, "one ...not at all(also not) ... ", to manifest the meaning of any one(everyone). In the concrete structure, we also explore the issue of subjective quantity of the MvP, especially the MvP in the Formâ…¡, by dint of the language form to verify its evaluation of the small subjective quantity. The grammar study not only pays attention to semantic analysis which is closely related to syntax pattern, but also pragmatic analysis after elements of a sentence entering the social occasions, so we should pay further attention to Pragmatic characteristics of the MvP when the structure, "MvP + VP + NP", enters verbal communication occasions, emphasizing the focus of the MvP, MvP and the subjective - objective, in-depth exploring of Pragmatic function of the MvP. On the issue of the focus ,We believe that the Formâ… is not fit for explanation of the theory of focus, but in the actual language phenomenon, the existence value of it lies in emphasizing the pragmatic meaning of the MvP, while in the Formâ…¡, we tend to think it as the dynamic contrast focus; on the issue of the subjective - objective, we analyze subjective intention and objective involuntariness of the MvP in the two forms in virtue of different degree of feeling of syntactic location to the intention; on the issue of exploring of Pragmatic function, we mainly analyze that the MvP structured by borrowed action quantifier can particularly enhances the image and color of the language.On the exploring of the issue, the preposing of the momentum phrase, the predecessors always studied it from the macroscopical visual angle, while this paper, based on microcosmic angle, discusses the semantic and pragmatic characteristics of the MvP in the structure of "MvP + VP + NP", which making people to have a profound understanding of this complex phenomenon. For the language is rich and varied and it is hard to use the uniform rule to explain the same language phenomenon, we can only try to comprehend the meaning of the existence of different languages phenomenon. And meanwhile we hope it can provide reference and assistance for people who study this issue in the future.
