The main purpose of this thesis is to research into the issues of the Chinese thinking patterns and their negative transfer in C-E translation.Based on a brief account of the relationship between thinking, language and translation, this thesis focuses on the relationship between thinking and translation. After discussing the characteristics of the Chinese thinking patterns, to better appreciate it, this thesis provides some detailed information to clarify the misinterpretations and stresses the uniqueness of the Chinese thinking patterns and the Chinese language. C-E translation seems to be complicated at the level of thinking. The negative transfer of the Chinese thinking patterns inevitably affect the C-E translation process, which is discussed before further elaborating on the causes of the negative transfer. Finally it discusses the strategic methods for minimizing the negative transfer in C-E translation, emphasizing that the translators should clarify the differences between Chinese and Western thinking patterns.
