Li Ho, the"Poet-Ghost"in the middle Tang Dynasty, and Li Jinfa, the modern symbolist poet who is called the"Poet-Wack"are both important poets in their eras and societies. For a long time, the academic circle has conducted rich and effective researches on either of them in the aspect of way of narration, structural and artistic feature, aesthetic effect, cultural connotation, etc. However, the research on the comparison of their poetrt requires further effort. In view of this, this thesis paper selects a prominent similarity in Li Ho and Li Jinfa's aesthecic features in poetry composing, that is, Morbid Beauty. Proceeding from this starting point, the paper conducts a comparative reading of their poetry and aims at exploring the common life consciousness hidden behind their works.Besides the introduction and conclusion, the body of the thesis consists of three parts: In the first part, the paper compares the representation of the feature of Morbid Beauty in their poetry in three aspects: the theme of the poem, the image and essence of the poem, and the practice of comopsing poems. The aim is to show that the features of Morbid Beauty not only exist in both of their poetry but also share a lot of similarities. In the second part, the paper proceeds from the family background, social experience and cultural influence to demonstrate the reason why Li Ho and Li Jinfa's poem represent a feature of Morbid Beauty. Through the analysis in this part, it can be discovered that the two poets resemble each other in the reason of the generation of Morbid Beauty. The third part concentrates on the insight into the poets'life consciousness reflected in this kind of Morbid Beauty. Li Ho and Li Jinfa both faced the predicament of life, and both reflect upon life and death in this predicament. Their life consciousness s is both profound and glowing. It is full of doubt and lament but also in no lack of positiveness and optimism."worry about the life and fear the death"is the painful moaning of the poets'soul under various harassment and blows. In the meantime,"being towards death"shows that the poets try to break the physical and mental shackles so that life can gain its freedom and clarity. By means of above analysis and demonstrations, this thesis paper aims to help the researchers and readers compare the poetry of Li Ho and Li Jinfa and thus gain a special aesthetic enjoyment and life inspiration in this process.
