Korean War is a war that has far-reaching effects on Northeast Asia and even the whole world. Due to this war, the current pattern of splitting in the Korean Peninsula is still one of the world's hot spots. Focused on the overall situation from the perspective of pattern, it is of practically significant to explore the cause, process and post-war impact of the Korean War.The principles of landscape ecology were introduced to study the war in this thesis. We analyzed the causes of the war with the Patch-Corridor-Matrix model and the process with the eco-security pattern theory. From the viewpoint of landscape ecology, we assumed that the war was a fiercely-competed process between two or more hostile political patches in a certain period and a specific geographic area, dealing with the flow organization of information, forces, weapons, materials and energy. The potential security pattern of the battlefield exerted special effects to the process of the war.Through analysis of the geographical pattern and the historical development of politics of Korean Peninsula, it was showed that the political split of the geographical units in the peninsula had led to the outbreak of the Korean War. While the imbalanced development of military between North and South Korea political region was also the direct cause of the war.Based on the analysis of the security pattern of the Korean battlefield and the study on the process of war, it was found that the security pattern of the battlefield war had crucial impacts on the process of Korean War. The contending for some strategically important localities and corridors, and controlling of the war flow such as equipment supplies to the enemy troops were essential to get advantages. Finally, the post-war pattern of the Korean and its far-reaching impacts on neighboring countries were analyzed. It is the war that had led to the stability of the current pattern of splitting in the Korean Peninsula. It also had accelerated the formation of the Cold War pattern in Northeast Asia and the recovery of Japan. Moreover, it had resulted in the Sino-US confrontation for more than 20 years and hampered the unification of China.
