As a significant part of the ancient Silk Road, Xinjiang has its unique natural scenery, cultural landscape, national culture and has always been a widely-adopted painting subject. Xinjiang culture has gathered various oriental and occidental elements and formed a local culture of pluralism. In the development of Xinjiang figure oil painting, it has been influenced to various extents by the local culture and foreign culture and finally formed a unique artistic style. In the oil painting of Xinjiang figures, figures, especially their image and customs are the main subject. They embody profound culture background and display distinctive features in their geographical condition, nationality and religious belief.This thesis discusses the major elements that influence the oil painting of Xinjiang figures, analyzes the influence of local and foreign culture on the formation of Xinjiang oil painting and introduces the features of Xinjiang figure oil painting and the direct and indirect effects of these influences. Through the introduction of development of Xinjiang figure oil painting since 50 years ago, this thesis clearly shows the history of Xinjiang figure oil painting and analyzes the problems within. From these problems, main problems of figure painting have been analyzed and a further discussion on contemporary Xinjiang figure oil painting has been suggested.
