The Research On China Traditional Dress Adornment-MeLe's Designing And Craft

This article makes a preliminary research on China traditional dress adornment–MeLe's conception,origin and the styles of MeLe in different dynasty. This research will be a complete study of MeLe in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic Period collected from the Folk Costumes Biography House of Southern Yangtze University. Based on the collected documents and pictures taken from interrelated bibliography and other old objects or the paintings will provide sufficient support to the study. It will give a more detailed analysis of matching between MeLe and Headgears,the style of hair and ornament ,dress and shoes. Make a classification based on MeLe from different areas. It will give a more accurate analysis and description of MeLe's designing such as shape,designed pattern,colors,making craft and cloth materials. By using the scientific measurement, the author recorded the specification size of MeLe from different areas. Analysis and classification the shape and designed pattern ,we know that the double semicircle shape is the most and the designed pattern are flowers,birds,butterflies,implication propitious things and etc. With respect to the fabrics, the main material used in MeLe's fabric is cotton plain cloth,black flannelette and satin cloth , the lining most is cotton plain cloth and flannelette. The colors of MeLe most are cool tone black and blue, its decoration color is rich and contrasted intensely, manifested rich region characteristic and manifested the Chinese tradition clothing's color culture. The author copied MeLe with modern material and technology, deducted the making step of MeLe. Based on above research, this thesis generalizes the function and cultural connotation. Referencing and applying MeLe's unique modeling, colors, pattern, making and decorating craft and etc like Chinese elements to design headgears and clothes unified traditional and fashion with Chinese characteristic. And also designates that China traditional dress adornment MeLe has important value and connotation to modern dress culture's development and application.
