Schubert's circle"Winterreise"is a representative work of early romanticism. Most of its songs are combinations of diatonic scale rhythm and laconic piano accompaniment and have strong lyricism and dramatics. These songs mostly adopt symphonic minor and actualize many inflexion and transition in a comparatively small space-time, which makes the music fantastic and enhances the contrast of music. The combination of lyrics and melody mostly adopt the way called"one word one sound". The rhythm is laconic and abstruse and perfectly combined with the lyrics, which tones the expression of lyrics closely. The texture of piano accompaniment is laconic, while it has comparatively strong artistic impressive force, thus builds and romances the emotion needed by the song. The prelude and coda echo from beginning to end. The music theme and the motive of theme are generally presented in the prelude in manner of transmutation, appear as its prototype in the melody and reappear in coda. Schubert's song circle"Winterreise"is the portraiture of Schubert's living condition, it reflects his era, opens out the society nature of his era, and it's also the inevitable result of"Liede"song's development. The hope and despair, loneliness and death, love and dream, nature and self that are expressed in"Winterreise"are the eternal theme in romanticism.
