By exploring and analysing the cultural recreational activities in the city-state period of ancient Greece,we can know humanistic styles of ancient Greece in the round and understand ancient Greeks's life-style and survival state better,we also can grasp the mutual action of politics,economy,military affairs in ancient Greece's society more deeply.At one time,ancient Greece's some cultural recreational activities have the inaugurated character.These cultural recreational activities with inaugurated character have produced far-reaching influence to future generations.So studying the cultural recreational activities in the city-state period of ancient Greece has certain academic value.The contents and forms of ancient Greece's cultural recreational activities in the city-state period is extremely rich,including the common religious festival,the competitive game,the theatrical performance and the banquet.The cultural recreational activities have the religiousness,humanity, universality,competitiveness and diversity.The reasons can be explored in such aspects as the prosperity of slavery economy,the development of democratic politics,the support of city-state and elites and the optimistic spirit of ancient Greeks.Although the cultural recreational activities in the city-state period of ancient Greece have some limitations,if we judge from the historical materialism angle,the cultural recreational activities still have the positive social functions.For example,improving the citizen's qualities of the culture and sports,promoting the perfection of democratic politics,mitigating the citizen's internal conflicts,strengthening the city-state's cohesion,enlarging the communication among the poleis,building the friendly atmosphere among the poleis.Especially the Olympic games have produced immeasurable influence.
