Research On American Law Movie In The Narrative Angle

The American law movie is not only becoming a common practice in the US, but also being taken as one kind of medium and carriers, propagating and broadcasting the US legal culture and value throughout the world. It can be said that, the influence of the American law movie has already far exceeded the movie itself. When digging out the reasons, we find that the US is a legal state. A big macroscopic background, in which all Americans have their legal beliefs, is no doubt essential, but the basic factor such as narrative aspects of the outstanding performance of the law movie is also similarly important.It's unusual for scholars to analyze the American law movie in the narrative angle. At present, the research in China on American law movie is mainly concerned on research and analysis of the law culture of the movie by the scholars of law. Given that, the narrative achievement cuts into the spot to conduct the research and make this paper as an innovative one. Through analysising the characteristic of the strategy of narrative, conflict setting, narrative time and similar others in the American law movie, this article proposes that American law movie has two different kinds of narrative cores: court play and jail play. When studying the court play, I mainly discuss about courtroom as narrative spatial, the court word narrates as the words and questions in the court play as well as the point of view displays the high-frequency which converts. As to the jail play, I discuss the jail space as narrative space, and how jail and character's psychology mutually affects one another. This kind of relation produced as a result of the jail, which contains compromise and revolt, precisely narrates the jail play as the core of unique American law movie.The paper is divided into three main parts. The first part outlines the introduction of American law movie, which mainly focuses on a factual basis of the American law movie, as well as the analysis of the American law movie's present situation. The second part analyses American law movie's narrative, which mainly involves the narrative strategy of the American movie, and the conflicts constructed within the aspect of narrative time. The third part mainly focuses on the research of narrative core of the American law movie. I propose two different kinds of narrative cores in the American law movie, and have made a careful reorganization and analysis of each category of narrative core characteristics.
