Changsha dialect belongs to the family of Changsha-Yiyan dialect attached to Xiang dialects. It is one of the most representative ones in Xiang dialects. There is much difference between the pronunciation of Changsha dialect and that of other surrounding dialects, and moreover there even exist differences within them. Researches before usually focused on phonetcs in the dialect of Changsha City, which has little relation to the characteristics of other dialects outside it. But there are really some striking differences between the phonetic sounds in Lituo dialect and those of Changsha dialect, and some special sounds in Lituo dialect never appear in Changsha dialect and the dialects in other towns and counties nearby. This thesis will have a systematic study of Lituo dialect and generalize its basic phonetic system, its characteristics and its phonetic levels. Based on the above content, this thesis makes a comparison between the phonetic sounds in Lituo dialect and Changsha dialect. Then probes their connections and distinctions. Surely It will provide first-hand materials and exact references for studying the inside differences in Changsha dialect.This thesis consists of five chapters. The introduction concerns the geographical location, history, the language service conditon of Changsha City.It also tells us the conditions in Lituo County and the present state of the research on Changsha dialect, and at the same time states the key points discussed in this thesis and its significance.Chapter One gives a description of phonetic system and features in Lituo dialect. Chapter Two analyzes the different pronunciations of Lituo dialect both in written language and spoken language.Chapter Three makes a list of homophones in Lituo dialect.Chapter Four analyzes the close relationships and differences between Lituo dialect and Changsha dialect and their development tendency.
