Especially in the Chinese drawing, the line not only exists as a modeling essential method, but also has the rich connotations and the unique decoration esthetic sense. In China, the decorative beauty of the line began to appear as early as in the pottery's decorative design in the primitive society, at the Spring and Autumn Period Warring States that had manifested in the drawing. Latter it experiences the painters unceasingly inherit and develop, the line has formed its own decoration esthetic style finally. Specially to latter Qing dynasty when Ren Bonian who continued in handing down a tradition's essence and broke through the innovations at the same time, moreover, he has absorbed the folk as well as the contemporaries artistic achievements, then achieves mastery through a comprehensive study, thus has formed both sometimes a generation of characteristic, also has the person unique style to use the line. His painting's line is assembling and parting appropriately, the alternation order, the weight and the length of the line is changeable and nature. Each line is most melodious, presents the unadorned flavor, and does not lose the simple and honorable fresh intense decoration esthetic sense when uses the line.This article starts from the representative works from Ren Bonian, analyzing the unique decoration esthetic sense which the line has in its work. In order to carry on the thorough discussion, this article represents three major parts to discuss. The first part is the overall summary of the Ren Bonian's portrait artistic feature, analyzing three big primary factors which constitute its decoration style: namely, the modeling, the color, and the line. To stress the influential role the line's decoration feeling play in forming the united style. The second part researches on the historical origin of the line's decoration esthetic sense, which is to unearth historical root of the decoration esthetic sense which Ren Bonian's line has; the third part unifies Ren Bonian's concrete work, analyzed to obtain three aspects which inflect his decoration esthetic sense: namely, order feeling, rhythm and rhythmical image.The last part of the article is to generalize and summarize the rules that govern the decoration esthetic sense, expecting us to stand on the foundation of absorbing the predecessors'experiences and to develop the innovations unceasingly, to create a new brilliant in modern painting's atmosphere.
