Soul Trudged In The Wild

Mu Dan has the most modern poetic style in"nine-leaf poets". Classical Chinese poetry has little effect on him. However, he benefited much from foreign poetry. He is good at imbibing strongpoint of foreign poetry, especially modern western poetry. He used ferment of his life to digest and integrate. And then he wrote modern poetry containing Chinese characteristics. In this paper,"Wasteland"consciousness which is the most characteristic and almost be covered by the whole works in Mu Dan's Poetry is unscrambled completely. Accordingly, we arrived at the spirit-core of poesy. It exhibited a soul trudged in the wild. In the first part, the origin and connotation of"Wasteland"consciousness in Mu Dan's Poetry were introduced. His inspiration was from"Wasteland"of western Eliot. He analyzed the origin and connotation of"Wasteland"consciousness cauterized Chinese character combining Chinese time background and his learning atmosphere as well as his absurd fortune. In the second part, the representation and prolongation of"Wasteland"consciousness are shown. We further unscrambled"Wasteland"consciousness from"time","death","atman","way"and"winter". Present, history and future are all dark."living"is"disillusionment"to person. Atman is restricted greatly, and the way of life is windy and absentminded. However,"I"bravely choose to undertake and make"my life also beats in freezing winter". The way of life is"Wasteland", but"my"soul is not inhospitable. It always trudges gamely in hardship. In the last part, the poetic values of"Wasteland"consciousness are analyzed from the development of new poetry: From the perspective of the intersection of Chinese and foreign poetry art, Mu Dan responded and absorpted the Eliot's"Wasteland"scientificly. For the modern Chinese Poetry historical significance and long-term impact, Mu Dan's creation can not be understimated and ignored.
