In 1920, Bury's monograph"The Idea of Progress"was published, constitutes the western educational world reconsidering the idea of progress the beginning. His system exhaustively discussed the the idea of progress production, has formed, the determination and the successional variation process. In western circle of thinkers, one bleak atmosphere started to spread, but Bury believed that, The idea of progress has full of vitality made the substantive contribution for the western society. He thought that, The evolution certainly not inevitably is progresses, the biological theory of evolution constituted the idea of progress evidence or the new center of resistance, but to a certain extent, The idea of progress is one kind of thought which made the biological theory of evolution's production and widely accepted into possibly; The idea of progress's connotation is relative, it relates with people's value orientation, therefore, along with the social life unceasing evolution and the corresponding value orientation change, the progressive idea also unceasingly entrusts with the different connotation; Breaks to the the idea of progress ultimate fantasy, because of person's participation, the history is displays as a process that has the goal, the idea of progress is one kind to humanity's ultimate concern, so the people fill with the confidence to try hard for the present world and generation's happiness.
