This study proposes a systemic-functional mode of analysis for the stylistic study of point of view in Wuthering Heights. Point of view in fiction is the point of departure of the writer's outlook on the content of fiction. Due to its close relationship to the thematic meaning and artistic form of the fiction, point of view merits in-depth stylistic study. Tenor of discourse is the sub-field of Systemic Functional Linguistics. Systemic-Functional Grammar (SFG) provides the systemic description and explication of language's function on the semantic level and is widely applied to literary discourse analysis. Therefore, SFG is the potential analytical device for the study of point of view in fiction. The author of this thesis tries to choose some extracts from the novel in order to give a respectively comprehensive and systematic analysis of Wuthering Heights from the new perspective—stylistics. So this thesis hopes to provide objective evidence for the novel's aesthetic value through describing and analyzing the chosen point of view and linguistic features and their stylistic effects thus enabling readers to better understand and appreciate the subject's significance and artistic value. This thesis is composed of six parts: The introduction part gives the information of Emily Bronte and Wuthering Heights as well as the studies of the novel given by scholars in recent years; Chapter one focuses on the theoretical basis of tenor theory in Systemic-Functional Grammar; Chapter two pays attention to the introduction of point of view and discussing the points of view in Wuthering Heights; Chapter three lays emphasis on the case study from the novel to analyze the language from the perspective of stylistics and the presentation of point of view from the language analysis; Chapter four is beyond the voice. Conclusion part makes a conclusion about the paper. It remarks on the theoretical and practical significance of the proposed mode of analysis, and points out its limitations and suggests the direction for further study. Through study, I have found that analyzing the point of view in Wuthering Heights from the perspective of tenor is an effective and scientific method, which can make the literary analysis more profound. Thereby, we not only testify the tenor theory through the analytical work but also acquire a new perspective for literary analysis and appreciation.
