This thesis is mainly about a new mode of English intensive course for C grade students.A feasible and effective teaching method for C grade students is in urgent need because the majority of C grade students who got relatively lower scores in the College Entrance Examination and hence paid higher fees for their college education have little command of English so that they have great difficulty in studying college English. In order to seek for the feasible and effective teaching method for C grade students, in this thesis, I try to integrate target cultural elements, especially communication cultural knowledge, into English intensive course which is at the core of college English course for C grade students. The integration method of target culture is carried out by making a series of comparisons between the target culture and the native culture which are embodied in English and Chinese. The comparisons range from vocabulary, grammar, to discourse organization. The source of the comparison items is mainly from textbook, New Horizon College English. The feasibility of this method is established by analyzing the personality and regional characteristics of C grade students as well as the interrelationship between culture and language teaching. The method is proved to be valid and effective by data analyses of the experiment which lasts eighteen months, including not only summative assessment but also formative assessment, and intercultural test. In addition, the results of the questionnaire indicate that most of C grade students generate their interest in studying English after the new teaching method is applied to them.In brief, the new mode of English intensive course for C grade students, the integration method of target culture, improves students'English, increases their cultural sensitivity, motivates their interest in studying English and develops their learning autonomy.
