The Relationship Between Discourse Production,Interpretation And Cognitive Context

France Scholar Sperber and British scholar Wilson founded the Relevance Theory.They has proposed Cognitive Context concept from the view of cognitive perspective. Being different from traditional context, Cognitive context is a dynamic view and is the new perspective of the context studying. An individual's total cognitive context is the set of all the facts that are manifest to him. Cognitive context is recognized by the main input information (discourse information and environmental information, etc.) and are identified by the input information activation of the relevant information . Cognitive Context is a psychological construction,putting the expresser of the language and interpreter at the center of the framework of Context.This thesis contains five chapters.The first chapter makes a commentary on the current research of the cognitive context.Then propose the insufficient current research and the contents of further study . Chapter two makes a formal description of the cognitive reasoning in the context with analysis of examples.Chapter three elaborates dynamic Cognitive Context Construction from three perspectives :the mainbody,inter-subjectivity and the main object of between . Then discuss the construction performance of cognitive Context ,which is initiatively constructed by Communication both sides to realize communication purpose. Chapter four elaborates the relevant theory of discourse overloading meaning and performance .Then analyzes the role cognitive context plays in discourse overloading meaning derivation and the derivation results. Chapter five elaborates the relevant theory of discourse blank and how does the cognitive context fill the discourse blank. Conclusion part has a summary of this thesis and points out the thoretical value of cognitive context in discourse production and interpretation .We think the study of cognitive context will broaden the contextual research and will help us to study the theory of context deeply.
