The concept definition and theoretical delamination of "narrative mode" which are used as the consistent mainline and essential utterance to launch the treatise in this paper are borrowed from Chen Pingyuan's "The Transition of Chinese Novels' Narrative Mode". In the perspective of narratology: a unique mirror image and studying view-fields, on the basis of reading and analyzing Zhao Shuli's novel texts carefully in three levels: "the narrative time, the narrative structure and the narrative perspective", we try to explore the intricate origin relationship on the narration structure of text, characteristics of the narrative discourse and the inherent spirit between Zhao Shuli's novels and Chinese traditional literature as well as Chinese folk literary arts.Meanwhile, this paper attempts to make a comparison in a vaster clue, under the unique dimension of narrative mode, between Zhao Shuli's novels and The May 4th modern novels. The May 4th modern novels are born in the process of response to the grave challenges of western literature, learn from the western novels' style, which had holding a controlling position and had a profound influence on the basic characters and evolution of Chinese novels in the 20th century. But while completing the modern transition of the Chinese novels' narrative mode as well as realizing the pursuing of modernization of Chinese literature, the authors of The May 4th New Literature had neglected the significance and influence of Chinese traditional literature which is of great importance as far as the modern transition of Chinese literature be concerned, and also had disregarded the inseparable origin relationship between them. This had brought about many problems and limitations. With the comparison, we can achieve the goal of underlining and even say recognizing newly the irreplaceable value and significance of the narrative mode with a distinct traditionally characteristic of Zhao Shuli's novels in the development of Chinese literature in the 20th century.
