In the middle period of the Ming Dynasty, the situation was volatile, there was enemy tribulation in the outside, turmoil in the inside. This was an age in which class contradiction,ruling internal contradiction and national contradiction intensified mutually, this also belonged to an era of "the times produce their heroes ". Keeping abreast of the time's need, Ye Sheng started to assume an official post actively and was dynamic in the political forefront in the middle period of the Ming Dynasty. He devoted his entire enemy and thought to harness border area, making remarkable contributions. Meantime, he dedicated himself to learning, becoming the most famous poet, a specialist in bibliography and book collection in the middle period of the Ming Dynasty. Therefore, Ye Sheng was an historical figure who was worthwhile to be deeply studied. The thesis takes Ye Sheng as research subject. On the basis of adopting Marxism historical theory and taking a realistic,bisecting attitude, the thesis will study his politics,military and learning activity in the three periods: JingTai,TianShun,ChengHua in the Ming Dynasty, explore his thoughts in politics,military and bibliography fields, evaluate his merits and demerits. The thesis will fall into five parts:The first chapter: probe into achievements Ye Sheng had made in the JingTai period. In the early of JingTai period, as a counselor, Ye Sheng firmly took the responsibility of admonishing the emperor. He submitted politics of managing state affairs to the throne and conveyed to people's conditions, hoping to clear up administration of local officials.at the price of live and die. In the third year of JingTai, Ye Sheng supervised xuan government's land tax and assisted military affairs. He promoted what is beneficial and abolished what is harmful. Meanwhile, he greatly repaired defense preparations and soldiers reclaim wasteland and plough. He also established community and schools. All these efforts changed the situation of weak military and impoverished people.The second chapter: probe into achievements Ye Sheng had made in the TianShun period. In the second year of TianShun, Ye Sheng began to be the governor of the Two Guangs. He suppressed uprings Yao people started, renovated governors of ethnic minority, reformed salt affairs, spread the method of dividing conscript labor equally, making the Two Guangs become tranquil, governors conformed to guideline of imperial court, the masses could live and propagate.The third chapter: probe into achievements Ye Sheng had made in the ChenHua period. In the first year of Chenghua, Ye Sheng once again acted as the governor of Xuan government, extensively spread strategies of managing border area. This action, in some degree, changed the current situation in which borderline preparations was weak, consolidating north—western frontier pass.The fourth chapter: analyze his learning activity. Having accepted better education from the child as well as his preserving efforts, Ye Sheng wrote plentiful and substantial books, among which《Lu Zhu tang bibliography》was representative. It was creative in traditional classification of four parts, exerting profound influence on later generations.The fifth chapter: sum up Ye Sheng's deeds of all his life and evaluate him historically comprehensively and objectively. Ye Sheng devoted his most of life to guarding frontier pass and consolidating border defense. He worked his heart—out and exerted himself to the utmost, finally he established remarkable achievements by help of his own diligence and intelligence. At the meantime, he produced a marked effect in leaning at art because of his industriousness. However, he also made some mistakes and had demerits in his life.
