Things always seem to be the case: an adaptation work,from the day it emerged, will fall into the endless comparative morass of "resemblance" and "lack of resemblance" with the original work,especially the adaptation work from literature to film. When the "lust,caution"traveled from the hands of Eileen Chang to Ang Lee, it has created a sensation in both literature and film circle.So this thesis insists,behind the noisy comments, how to define the relationship between the novel and the moive is an unavoidable problem that must be solved in practice of adaptation, because it is not only the basis and the core in the theoretical issues of adaptation ,but also the foundation of addressing other problems related theory and practice of film adaptation.Therefore, instead of discussing the differences and ties between the novel and film, and the skills of adaptation such as language, narrative, style, structure, this article puts the Lust,Caution's film and novel as a basic starting point, to discuss the relationship between the adaptation and the original work and the question of how to understand "faithful to the original" on the micro level.The whole thesis consists of four parts:The first part is the introduction of Lust,Caution which adaptated from Eileen Chang's novel .it makes some collation and analysis of the comments caused from the film adaptation , and derives the problems facing in the film adaptation, that is "whether the film should be faithful to the original novel ",then it goes further to establish the article's argument: the relationship between the film adaptation and the original literature must be"borrowing" and "lending".Part 2 discusses the creative processes of Lust, Caution" from three perspective of taking advantage of the color of original work, the "color" of the author ,and the "color"of the creating.It intends to show that the generation of "Lust, Caution"is a process of "borrowing" and "creating" in essence.From the film Lust, Caution to return to the original novel, the next part formes a discussion model of novel--film--novel,then it discusses how the film to go beyond and to surpass the original novel ,and discusses the means of "taking advantage", that is, how a film "taking advantage" of its oringinal novel for reference can make it originate from but surpass the novel?The conclusion part puts forward a new theoretical viewpoint of "whether the film should be faithful to the original",summing up that the relationship between the film adaptation and the original work should be "borrowing"and "lent",analysising the"borrowing" personalities and approaches in the film theory field of adaptation, providing a new perspective to the current film field of adaptation,which will pour the paper with some academic value and theoretical significance.
