China has glorious traditional culture with a long history. As part of the splendid culture, the traditional calligraphy and painting have their own unique system that distinguishes them in visual elements and symbols from other cultures. They are not only the historical deposits but also the sources of the modern art.In the development of traditional calligraphy and painting, due to limitation of spatial environment, collection method, and reading condition, there produced many different art forms, such as vertical shaft, covering of fan, shoujuan, streamer, and album, etc. Among those forms, the vertical shaft and streamer are most closely related to interior space. Their height and width are constrained by the size of the interior and are highly correlated to the furnishing environment. Along with time pass-by and social development, the spatial space, interior design, and indoor materials have changed. Therefore the environments by which traditional calligraphy and painting live do not exist anymore. In order to survive, they must adapt themselves to the new environment. The development of a particular form in the traditional calligraphy and painting art has received the indoor spatial restriction and influence. The art form and interior space have gradually established their coordination in this development process. The paper has found out uncoordinated factors in the long-term developing process and used comparison research to discover their changes and rules of the traditional calligraphy and painting in the modern interior space. Based on the generalization of the rules, the paper outlined a path to inheritance and development and it can be guidance for the interior design and decoration. |
