Xu Fuzuo is a famous dramatist in Wanli Period of Ming Dynasty, whose survived drama works are the three legends, Hong Li Ji (The Red Pear),Xiao Guang Jian (The Luminous Sword) and Tou Suo Ji(Throwing the Shuttle), and the one Zaju DramaYi Wen Qian(Only One Penny).By using text analysis combined with stage performance, this thesis mainly studies Hong Li Ji, the other three works being discussed as well. As an outstanding legend, Hong Li Ji includes some different thought of Xu Fuzuo, which was known as"one of the most excellent work in Ming Dynasty dramas"; Xiao Guang Jian and Tou Suo Ji both describe people's inner-feelings through legends, and full of strong subjective interests;and Zaju Yi Wen Qian is one of excellent satirical comedy and full of criticism reality, and also stablishes the Xu Fuzuo's status in the history of the Ming Zaju Drama. His drama works all have ever been put on the stage, among which Hong Li Ji and Xiao Guang Jian have been the frequent- performed dramas on the Kun Qu stage. In addition, this thesis makes a new study about Xu Fuzuo's drama theory. The author thinks that Xu Fuzuo's drama theory includes the content of the following five aspects:social functions of drama, narrative feature of drama, language style of drama, rhyme rule of drama, structure of drama. His drama theory which think Shen Jing is a great drama master advocates the dramatic theory of"Simplicity"and"Popularity",criticizes the unperformed drama works which are writed by the dramatist of WenCi School, and expands the influence of WuJiang School on the theory. Therefore the author thinks Xu Fuzuo is a dramatist of WuJiang school.
