Wen Zi Meng Qiu is the book written for children to learn Chinese characters by Wang Yun in Qing Dynasty. There are 2050 words in the book. This is also important as a reference in understanding Shuo Wen Jie Zi.Up until now ,the research toward the book is mainly carried out from educational point of view. Therefore, the idea here to analyse it philologically is quite original. After Wen Zi Meng Qiu and Shuo Wen Shi Li was compared, there are four styles in the interpretation of Chinese characters:to adopt Xu Shen's explanations directly,to explain without Wang Yun's own explanation;to put "an" on the basis of interpretation of Shuo Wen Jie Zi's explanation, to present one's idea immediately after Xu Shen's explanation or introduce it by"I personally consider",so that to further explain some difficult points or to correct some wrong theories in order to demonstrate his own decoding of the Chinese characters, and he demonstrates his own thought from a lot of points.Wen Zi Meng Qiu achieved several accomplishments: Its illustration of the sequence of Liu Shu;the putting forward of the theory: "Si Ti and Er Yong" idea; its exploring toward the evolving of Chinese characters on the basis of ancient written material; its correction toward the interpretation of Shuo Wen Jie Zi,demonstrating the origin of functional words and its significance in educational practice. However, there are also some defects in Wen Zi Meng Qiu.e.g the classifications of some words are vague and some of his analyses that are errors are commonly spread and accepted by people. This paper talks about the content, styles, achievements and defects of Wen Zi Meng Qiu.Nevertheless,it doesn't cover all the comtents the book concerns, for instance, "Jian Shu" phenomenon. Because, it has already been discussed about in some specialized works.
