Study On University Introduction From The Perspectives Of Discourse Analysis

This thesis focuses on the analyses of the differences in the introductions of universities in China and abroad from the perspective of discourse analysis and functional influence of the discourse, and tries to reveal the differences in cultural background of those universities. Numerous studies on discourse analysis of various kinds of works in literature, communication and daily expositions have been done by Chinese linguists to reveal the cultural differences, but the analyses on university introduction, a very special kind of genre, have drawn little attention up to now. In the 21st century, the communication between China and other parts of the world extends to cultural, technological and academic aspects beyond the economic, and thus the introductions of universities appear to be the bridge of this new development. With the characteristics of advertisement, university introductions, which must be a symbol of authority and represent cultural strengths, could provide not only scholars but everyone else who is interested in cultural comparison with supporting evidences.
