Wang zuoliang (1916-1995) is one of the most famous British literary historians. In this paper, by studying his two books, the "History of English Romantic Poetry" and "the History of British Prose ", aggregated the characteristics of the research on the History of English Literature, which summarized its literary criticism of the methods.â… The research on the History of English Romantic Poetry. Mr. Wang compiled the "History of English Romantic Poetry" which filled the blank of the domestic history of English poetry. This book mainly includes the seven British Romantic poets and their representatives. Mr. Wang evaluated the main works of each poet . Through this book we also can be found some features of the methods on researching into the history of English literature.First, Mr. Wang attached particular importance to the art of poetry.Although the interpretation of art to the poetry, he did not totally divorced from the backgrounds of the times, he combined the overall history style and the in-depth and meticulous analysis of specific writers with their works . Also cited a large number of citations. Because this book is written for the Chinese people, the purpose is to understand the history of English literature .so narration should be combined with argumentum when it is written. The third approach is the use of comparison. Mr. Wang had used all kinds of methods. For example, the comparison between the poet and poet, and the poets with the same theme. The fourth is the Chinese characteristics assessment methods on poetry. The most fundamental principle is that he is a Chinese scholar . Although this book is about the history of English poetry, he used a traditional Chinese poetry method which is an innovative way of the form.â…¡The exploration on the history of British Prose. Mr. Wang 's innovation and exploration in the poem assessment are embodied not only in the language but the principle.In this paper, by researching the "History of English Romantic Poetry" and "The History of British Prose", we cognitived his academic achievement on the history of English literature. In fact, Mr. Wang 's academic career is very extensive, apart from studying the history of English literature, but also of Shakespeare and the study of translation and the research on the United States of short stories, and so on. Therefore, this paper referring to the fields is not fully covered all of the academic achievements on Mr. Wang.
