Between "Spring Field" And "Casement"

Lin Geng is a pure and self-willed pathfinder,in the history of modern Chinese poetry.He applied himself to the studies of modern Chinese poetry all his life,From launching the issue Monthly Literature to publishing the verses the Nights,the Spring Field and the Casement and so on,from addressing the concepts of "bandou lu" and "wusi ti" to finishing the Rhythm of Modern poetry and the Poetic Language,Lin Geng made great achievements in the field of Chinese modern poetry.In recent years,his achievements have attracted researchers' attention.Also,it has given rise to much controversy.In 1930s,there were "the Beauty of Wan Tang" and "Symbolism" two standpoints.Recently,there are "Modern" and "Classical" too.This essay attempts to break different standpoints to observe Lin Geng's poetry and poetics from traditional and modern double angles.It aims to describe the rich contents that the classical image and the modern spirit form which is fused,argue the action between traditional tendency and modern quality which is influenced each other,find some illumination for modern poetry from these discussions.The essay has four chapters:the preface,the upper,the lower and thee conclusion. In the preface,it is introduced the process that Lin Geng is engaged in poetry and the situation on its study and the two concepts:traditional tendency and modern quality.In the upper chapter,through the analysis of Lin Geng's poems in 1930s,one is found that absorbed nutriments from classical tradition,Lin Geng expresses complicated emotions of modern people and opens up a piece of "Spring Field";the other is that borrowed ideas from Symbolism,Lin Geng digests it in the modern poems and starts a modern "Casement".On the above ground,it is revealed that traditional tendency and modern quality are interpenetrated and integrated.In the lower chapter,through poetics,it is analyzed that the traditional Consciousness of Lin Geng's poetry is foreignized in the influence of Symbolism ahd the modern quality of Lin's is domesticated in Chinese cultural tradition.On the over base,it is expounded that Lin Geng achieved unique opinions in the studies of Chinese modern poetry.In the conclusion,it is summed up that how the poems and poetics of Lin Geng influenced Chinese modern poetry.
