| Novels and films are two different sorts of arts, in which the producer relates tales, shapes figures and expresses emotions by means of different media. Therefore, they adopt respective special expressive arts and techniques to elucidate the same theme. Narrative is one of the crosses between the two arts of novels and films which are closely related to each other. This paper, from the angle of narratology, chooses the novel Living written by Yu Hua and the corresponding Film, with the same name but revised by Zhang Yimou, as the cases to make analysis in details, compare the similarities and contrast the differences in the narrative techniques of the two works.The first part is to analyze and compare the narrative structures of the novel Living and the film Living, and attaches the emphasis on examining the texts and the contents of both the novel and film. In order to make a deep research into the similarities and differences of the two narrative structures, the writer analyze these two works in respects of the plots, figures and environment—the three main factors of a narrative structure. The second part is to analyze and compare the two works from the angle of narrative ways, and focuses on analyzing the forms of the expressions, that is, the narrative techniques and skills used in speeches. In the works of narrative, there are various narrative techniques in speeches, which are analyzed and compared in this paper in respects of narrative time, the narrator and the narrative angle. |
