The main purpose of this dissertation is to introduce Rhetorical Linguistic and Rhetorical Reading Strategy of Paul de Man and thoroughly investigate the relationship between them.However, in spite of his heterogeneous and changeful deconstruction, the focus of rhetoricity penetrates through Paul de Man's critical life. So the author believes that the rhetorical linguistic of Paul de Man is not only the origin of all his"deconstruction", but also the important value scale which decides his critical theories and practices. All in all, the rhetorical reading strategy of Paul de Man is representation of his view of rhetoric language on the literature.The dissertation consists of five parts:Mostly, the introduction is a general summarization. It firstly offers a general statement about the overseas and domestic study of Paul de Man's"deconstruction". After that, it surveys the basis of the dissertation and the distinctness him from the others. The thinking and forming approach and the aim of the dissertation is schemed too.The chapter I, chapter II and chapter III are the main body of the dissertation. The first one mainly distinguishes the connotation and its characteristic of the Paul de Man's rhetorical linguistics. In the first section, the author identifies the rhetorical language view of Paul de Man from a linguistic perspective and points out that the rhetorical linguistics of Paul de Man is actually an"aesthetic"view of the language. He holds the view that language's rhetoric nature, unsteadiness, primarily suspends logic and destroys grammar, which produces the mutual contradiction among grammar, logic and leads to ambiguity of the meaning. The language is not pure and transparent any more .All the texts consisting of language would encounter not cohesion of traditional meaning, but dispersal. The meaning was removed from the text and the text was quarantined in the language. Paul de Man also regards the rhetoric properties as the essence of language, rhetoric cannot be removed by any text. So the language was quarantined by the rhetoric. Paul de Man's language can not only insulates from the idea of humankind and realism, but also can ceaseless self-create by some kinds of rhetoric. The second part ulteriorly discusses the obdurate and aesthetics of Paul de Man's language.Chapter II sets out to trace the time background and academic origin of Paul de Man's rhetorical linguistic. The dissertation firstly surveys the times necessities and individual factors that promoted De Man to form the rhetorical linguistic. Secondly, by a close comparison of the similarities and differences between Derrida and Paul de Man,Nietzsche and Paul de Man, in order to show how De Man used for reference and formed his rhetorical linguistic. The third part explains by the difference between Derrida and Paul de Man: comparing to Derrida's deconstruction, the deconstruction of Paul de Man is literary deconstruction。Chapter III devoted to draw the overall picture of what rhetorical strategy means by Paul de Man from a linguistic perspective. The rhetoric properties are the essence of language. And it is the original cause of the deconstruction, also lead to his Rhetorical Reading Strategy. The first part dwells on De Man's reading concept and rhetoric, which are the linguistic foundations for his rhetorical reading theory. Next ,it explains by examples what rhetorical reading is and how De Man reveals the gap between grammar and rhetoric ,which produces ambiguity so that the meaning of the text is in a"suspense"state. In the result, every reading is an allegory of reading and every reading is misreading. The last chapter marks an effort to interpret significances and deficiencies of Rhetorical Linguistic and Rhetorical Reading Strategy of Paul de Man.As a deconstruction of mind, Paul De Man's Rhetorical Linguistic and Rhetorical Reading Strategy are similar to the criticism of the Age of Enlightenment. Although it puts too much emphasis on the rhetorical control of the language, the thinking approach permeates through every corner of the world. In the end, I claimed that his fresh and aborative reading not only essential overthrow traditional Linguistic and criticism, but also enbroad learning visual field. Most importantly, it promotes us to pay more attention to the contradiction and tensility in the process of reading.
