A Study On Enter-city Farmers' Images In Novels Since 1990's

With the rapid development of urbanization, many farmers walk out of their homeland their forefathers lived from generation to generation to city. Their living environment and mental state are thus undergoing qualitative transformation. Therefore, all kinds of enter-city farmers' images were created by novelists, who combined the particular social background, cultural context with multi-cultures. These images, however, have a fundamental change than the previous, which enriches the farmers' characters in contemporary novels in virtue of their peculiar personality characteristics and profound visualized meanings and gives an important supplement for farmers' images in Chinese literature.This thesis consists of three chapters, apart from the introduction and conclusion.In the first chapter, enter-city farmers' images are divided into the following 5 kinds according to their different living styles presented in the novel texts: (1) "loach " in trouble; (2) "migratory bird" in city sky; (3) "trumpet creeper flower" in desire; (4) "upper dog" who changes his status by effort; (5) fighter who strives to be stronger. Moreover, the thesis analyzes the enter-city farmers' common characteristic—marginal personalities. They are permeated with worried sense, wandering sense, lonely sense and inferior sense.Chapter Two explores the causes of the appearance of enter-city farmers' image in novels since 1990's from the perspectives of social context of creation and psychology of novelists. The writer pays more attention to study the effects of society and culture on the newly images as well as the novelists' attachment to their hometown and their critical enlightened consciousness.Chapter Three, from longitudinal angle, analyzes the meanings of enter-city fanners' images in novels since 1990's. The significance lie in giving an important supplement to the farmers' images in Chinese literature, refracting people's mental characteristics in society transitional period, pioneering a new view for native literature. Besides, the writer points out the images' imperfection. They are lack of the ability of self-statement and the competence to survey morality.
