Its astonishing exorbitant price at least hundreds of thousand yuan, thus has made people neglect its original value as daily necessity. Ming Dynasty style furniture emerged under specific social, historical and cultural background and hand specific consumer groups. It is the background and the user's life concept and life style that specify the features and developing trend of Ming Dynasty style furniture.As to the study of Ming Dynasty style furniture, this paper will be mainly focused on a small scope, that is, the wooden bed and couch. It will study the social background in Suzhou area from the middle and late Ming Dynasty to early Qing Dynasty and how it influenced bed and couch product. From such aspects as the process of commercialization and urbanization, the shifts of craftsmen management system and residence hierarchy system, the prosperity of foreign trade, the sprouting of early capitalism enlightening thought and the identity shift between literati and traders in social life.Further, this paper will have a discussion in terms of the relationship between bed-couch and room space, its use in daily life, the way of production, its feature in form, etc.In the perspective of relationship with its social and cultural background, Ming Dynasty style furniture is the result of specific lifestyle in specific time. And this concept may help to inspire us on how to develop the current furniture. On one hand, overemphasis on tradition will definitely hinder the development and make it difficult to seek new opportunities for development; On the other hand, the pure innovation in form, material and technology is no more than to put branch to root, as a blind man rides a blind horse, aimless. Only when people have a deep understanding of the economy, society, culture and their daily life, focusing everything on human being, can they develop really dynamic furniture.
