Jin Dynasty is the times that Zaju and Zhoutanci were very popular but the orthodox ci poems almost disappeared. Comparing with other works on the theme of XiXiang, DongXiXiang, a typical example of Zhoutanci , not only brings forth new ideas about the ideological level and main content but also is unique on the linguistic art. It is full of the atmosphere of the times and has deep inertia of poems. Its language shows the orthodox and popular style. The paper asseses its artistic value from the scale. The paper is divided into three parts .Chapter one focuses on the language techniques of DongXiXiang: Firstly, it adopts the rhetorical characteristics including the reiterative locution, the regular sentence patterns, the hyperbole, the allusion, the repeated mode and the direct expressing. Among them, the first two is most typical. Secondly, it refines words by using sensible adjectives and verbs to create figures and depict scenes in details. Thirdly, it chooses spoken words to express figures' emotion and displays the life' s appearance. Lastly, it changes a part of Poems of the Tang Dynasty and ci poetry of the Song Dynasty then places them into the text. So the works has orthodox style in the base of the popular style.Chapter two analyzes the language types of DongXiXiang. There are three kinds of narrative scales: the external scale means that the story teller' s narrative behavior goes as an observer who knows everything; the middle scale means that the story teller' s comments on the things; the inner scale is the figures' limited narrative behavior. Based on all above theories, we can classify DongXiXiang' s language into three types: the first one is the story teller' s narrative language, in which the story teller uses prose to narrate simply then describes it in a rich and colorful manner by the way of verse; the second one is the story teller' s comments including the obvious languages and the undiscovered languages; the last are the figures' soliloquy and dialogue. Comparing the narrative system of language, the soliloquy is more beneficial to reveal the figures' inner mind and express themselves well. The dialogue is very important for pushing story progress and introducing character and figure. According to the difference of the body, we can also combine the above-all types into two kinds: the story teller' s language and the figures' language.Chapter three discusses the language of DongXiXiang with two aspects. DongXiXiang draws on the form of musical literature which features making sentences determined by the composition and adopts the language structure of alternating prose with verse, which is effected by Pien-wen, GuZiCi , Zhuanta and Changzhuan. Additionally, DongXiXiang' s theme is the same as the ci poems written by Liuyong who is good at depicting the young woman' s sorrows and the young man traveling for being an official. For the reason, DongXiXiang' s writer can absorb some words of Liuci poems to create figures and depict scenes. The language of DongXiXiang also has great effect on the Yuan opera. WangXiXiang is a typical example, which influenced by DongXiXiang. It quotes some sentences from DongXiXiang then changes them slightly and creates some new sentences based on DongXiXiang.
