The Phonetic Characters Of Nanjiao Dialect In Taiyuan

Nanjiao District locates at southeast area of Taiyuan City, and Nanjiao dialect belongs to a vernacular of Bingzhou sub-dialect of Jin dialects. Research on the phonology of Nanjiao dialect is helpful to investigate the phonological features of Taiyuan dialect at the early stage. Former researchers have explored deeply into the phonology of Taiyuan city dialect, but given little attention to suburb-the Nanjiao dialect. On the basis of the investigation of Nanjiao phonology, the present thesis compares its differences from Taiyuan phonology, with the aim to reveal the phonological characteristics in Nanjiao, and to contribute to the research on the phonology of Taiyuan dialect.In the90s of last century,the volume of DIALECT&PROVERB of TAIYUAN SHI NANJIAO QU ZHI has done pilot study on the Nanjiao dialect. On the basis of this research,the author investigated the phonology of the two generations in Xiaodian area, Nanjiao District and disclosed its phonological system at the medium and later stage of the 20th century. Furthermore, its differences from the phonology of Taiyuan dialect in the 20th century were analyzed to further illuminate the phonological system in Nanjiao District.The phonology of Nanjiao District differs from that of Taiyuan City. The paper explored the characteristics of the initial,th final,and the pitch:the initial is analyzed as the place of articulation, the final is discussed in order of pure vowel final,nasal final and entering final,sum up the characteristic of the pitch as the non-checked tone and the checked tone. According to the analysis, it can be concluded that the phonology in Nanjiao District is more conservative and evolutes more slowly than that of Taiyuan. It has its unique phonological features and still maintains the pronunciation at the medium stage of the 20^th century or even earlier stage.The development of Nanjiao phonology is closely related to its geographical location and is influenced by other integrative factors such as economy, life style, thoughts and concepts. The regulation of the language on its own is the internal cause for the present shape of Nanjiao phonology.
