La Damnation de Faust, one of Berlioz's magnum opuses, has a very difficult vocal part. My paper deals generally with the genre of this work and performance of the role Marguerite from the angel of view of a vocal performer. Through the analysis of music and performing indications, as well as of the cantabile characteristics and motivity of this role, I expatiated the unique feature of Berlioz's Marguerite, by which I hope to offer some references to other performers.
