The Suffering Complex In Novels By LuYao

Based on "suffering complex", this thesis, with the understanding of the suffering in people's struggle and love, makes a comprehensive survey of LuYao, the writer himself, and the characters' tragic material life and spiritual word in his novels. With the description of people's moving from the poor villages to outside world, of their struggling experiences in the intersection of cities and countries, and with the description of the tragic love under the influence of LuYao's traditional maternal instinct consciousness and modem women consciousness tangled up, this thesis illustrates the spiritual essence of "suffering" in a comprehensive and objective manner. Besides, this thesis also analyzes LuYao's suffering consciousness and its reasons from socio-psychological point of view. The significance of this thesis is to make it clear that "suffering complex" is LuYao's great contribution to China's realism literature in twentieth century, thus making a deeper understanding of his creation theme and style, and advocating carrying forward and promoting the suffering spirit in Shanxi literature.The thesis analyzes the suffering complex in LiYao's novels from three aspects. The first chapter chiefly discusses the material, spiritual and emotional sufferings of "Gao Jialin family" during their life struggle and their unique moral character reflected in their suffering experiences. The second chapter mainly analyzes the tragic memories of tree types of females, that is, Liu Qiaozhen-the female object to be aroused, Tian Runye-the soul wavering at two extremes and Hao Hongmei-the tragedy under the confinement of class politics, and their characters and tragic love. It also briefly analyzes the love model in Lu Yao's novels. The third chapter is about how sufferings led to Lu Yao and his literature, which will be discussed from four aspects: Lu Yao's suffering complex, tragic life and creative experiences, tragic love and tragic literature.
