Ai Wu stepped into the literature scene in 1933 with "Nan Xing Ji", a novel that was recognized in present day as the most valued work of Ai Wu. Researchers have used "Nan Xing Ji" in different aspects, including Ai Wu's techniques in writing and comparison of local and foreign vagabonds. This text seeks to explore Ai Wu's art of description from a narrative perspect.This text comprises of 3 main parts. The first part is about themed narrative and is made up of 3 different levels. Using first person's perspective throughout the book, his story appeared realistic and readers are brought closer to life in the borders. The second level analyses Ai Wu's self-descriptive to narrative way of writing, directly and indirectly. In order to present a flowing and lively story, Ai Wu used different perspectives in different parts of the story and the third level seeks to analyze his multi-perspective.The second part is about poetic narration. Ai Wu incorporated poem's characteristic in his novel, and made the borders more ideal and emotional than it is. Although Ai Wu's novel is not a fairy-tale, the text comprise some of fairy-tale's writing style and techniques.The third part is about his language used in narration. I will analyze from everyday life, humorous, philosophical and rich in culture's language of describing vagabonds. Ai Wu used dialogues from everyday life to portray realism in his novel. The use of humor highlights vagabonds' optimistic mindset as opposed to depression people often associate with vagabonds. Vagabonds are also more philosophical, after being through many difficulties in life. Lastly, Ai Wu spent 6 years in Yun Nan, Myanmar region and inevitably, his novel reflects the colorful borders' culture and geography.
