With the rapid development of the intercultural communication, peoplepay more and more attention to culture elements transferring in translation.Translation is regarded not only the translation of language, but also thetranslation of culture, especially in literary translation. The study of culturetransferringmethodsbecomesapopulartopicintranslationstudytheseyears.On one hand, the translator has to admit and has to know culture differences;ontheotherhand,he/shehastoapplysuitableculturetransferringmethods toreduceculturelossduringthecourseoftranslation.The introduction will work as the basic theoretical frame of the wholethesis. This thesis first makes a review of the translation theories related toliterary translation, the strategies of translation and requirements for thetranslator. Then the author analyses translatability and un-translatabilitytheories and relevant intercultural communication theories. Then the authormakes a brief introduction of the novel Fortress Besieged, including itsauthor, its translator, its main contents and its linguistic characteristics. Inchapter Three, the author quotes quite a few examples from the novelconcerning culture elements to analyze culture transferring methods usedduring the translation of literary works. The categories of the culturetransferring methods used in the composition of this thesis may not be accurate.However,theauthorhopesthecompositionofthisthesiscanfurtherthestudyofculturetransferringmethodsinliterarytranslation. |
