Multiple-first-person narration continues to be enriched in the process of writing. Both the content and structure of the novels have their own unique values. Different 'voices' and rich genres that embedded in the text cause the fragmentations of narration, showing the features of polyphonic revelry and dialogues. Protagonist flashes in and out in his monologues or talks of others. The implied author begins to play an important role and thus make the truth more difficult to be grasped. Fragmental narration makes the structure of novel change from linear decomposition of the overall to a parallel spatial one, reflecting its significant meanings in ambiguity and complexity. This thesis selects typical novels since 1980s as representatives. Starting from a narration perspective, this thesis intends to find the tendency of development through changes taking place in China since the first-person narrative method was introduced, and also through the new elements produced from its combination with the spirit of Chinese local culture, thus getting an intensive analysis about the writing skills and ideas of modern fictions from surface to the inner aspects. | Keywords/Search Tags: | polyphony, dialogue, implied author, parallel structure | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
