YanFu is not only an outstanding thinker, educator, and translator but also anenlighten thinker in the period of modernization in early China. His activities oftranslating the Western book into Chinese was mainly in the Constitutional Reform andModernization of 1898 period, when a large amount of western social sciencesmasterpiece were translated into Chinese by advanced Chinese. It should be YanFu whomade the most contribution and influence on the height of dispersing western knowledge.Although he had never put forward the concept of modernity directly, his social activitiesand thoughts lied in the translated western books has deeply shown the essential point ofhis modernity thought. This text is mainly to passes an investigation in late China dynastysociety especially in the process of social nasty in Tianjin to analysis the meaning of hismodernity thought which was included in his activities of translation and education inTianJin. At last, it should be pointed out the inherence defect accorder to his translatingand criticizing activities which include both destruction and construction and the lessonsfrom meaning to construction of modern society.
