| Over five decades ago, College English evolved in China. Since then, collegeEnglish textbooks have been renewed again and again. Accompanied with the collegeEnglish textbooks published in different stages, studies on them emerged in largenumbers. However, most theses concerning college English textbooks mainly focus onone or at most two sets of textbooks. Different from the other theses, this one will sumup the textbooks starting from 1960s to present days and draw conclusions. After that, ahorizontal comparison of four sets of textbooks, New Horizon College English, CollegeEnglish (new edition), New Era Interactive English, and Experiencing English, will bepresented because they are all in the form of all-in-one learning package.The author ftrstly categorizes college English textbooks into two major periods, theperiod under the influence of pedagogical theories and the period under the influence oftechnology. In the first period, according to the teaching methods and approachesreflected in the textbooks, three stages are introduced so that four points are concludedfrom them.The thesis points out that it will be the main aim to give suggestions on how to usethe present textbooks and what to pay attention to in publishing the new textbooks in thefuture through summarizing and evaluating the textbooks in the two periods. So afterthe introduction to the second period, the thesis presents a horizontal comparison of foursets of textbooks commonly used at present, from which it concludes that all-in-onestudy package is a necessary trend currently.Based on the foreign language teaching theories and educational psychologyhaving been discussed, at the end of the thesis, suggestions are listed to those who arerelevant to the textbooks in the form of all-in-one study package. This will give a deepinsight into some issues on using all-in-one study package in college English teaching inChina. |
